But the younger Gretzky at least is moving along in a major sport, something not all sports star offspring can say. With very few of the second generation making waves like their famed fathers, it’s laudable when a son emerges from the shadow of the spotlight to succeed on his own.
Gretzky was traded this week from the Chicago Cubs organization to the Los Angeles Angels (bringing some reminiscing of the elder Gretzky’s famous trade westward years ago). Trevor Gretzky was taken in the seventh round of the 2011 MLB draft and sounds excited about continuing to hone his baseball skills closer to home.
Gretzky has a ways to go before being named among the fathers and sons who have succeeded in pro sports, but he’s still in the game. Check out others who have gone before him.
