Report: Celtics Contacted Two Teams About Moving Up In NBA Draft

Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics have not given up hope of a potential trade for Kevin Love, but they are performing their due diligence in the event they don’t get a deal done before this month’s draft.

The Celtics have contacted “two unspecified teams” about trading up in the 2014 NBA draft, the Boston Herald reported Thursday, citing a league source. Ainge also has taken multiple calls from other teams inquiring about the sixth pick, according to the Herald.

It is not clear whether the Celtics are interested in moving into one of the top five slots to draft a player or to strengthen a trade package to offer the Minnesota Timberwolves. Reports in the last two days have indicated that the Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings — and possibly more teams — could have more enticing packages to swap for Love.

The Celtics hold the Nos. 6 and 17 picks in the draft, which will be held June 26.
