Tyronn Lue now is the highest-paid assistant coach in NBA history, Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday, citing league sources.
Lue reportedly signed a four-year, $6.5 million contract to work under new Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt.
Lue interviewed for the Cavaliers’ head-coaching job during the offseason, and Cleveland management grew very fond of the 37-year-old. The two-time NBA champion played 11 seasons in the NBA before coaching under Doc Rivers for five years with the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers.
Lue will play an important role in helping Blatt, a highly successful coach in Europe, adjust to the NBA.
Lue accepted the Cavaliers’ offer to become associate head coach Monday. He will earn $2 million in the final year of his deal, according to reports.
