Yankees’ Masahiro Tanaka Out Six Weeks With Partially Torn Arm Ligament

The hits just keep coming for the New York Yankees.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that ace Masahiro Tanaka has a partial tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm. Tanaka originally had been placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.

For now, Tanaka will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection and likely do at least six weeks of rehab. But the team hasn’t ruled out season-ending Tommy John surgery as a possibility. The Japanese star is the fourth Yankees starting pitcher to go down with an injury this season.

Tanaka was 12-4 with a 2.51 ERA before being placed on the DL. The Yankees signed him to a seven-year, $155 million contract this past offseason.
