Red Sox Prospect Henry Owens Named Eastern League Pitcher Of The Year

If you haven’t already heard, Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Henry Owens is a pretty big deal. And the 22-year-old southpaw only added to that notion by being named Eastern League Pitcher of the Year.

Owens put  up some incredible numbers during his time with the Portland Sea Dogs. His 14-4 record and 2.60 ERA in 20 starts in Double-A helped lead the team to the best record in the Eastern League. Owens also led the league in wins, strikeouts, complete games, shutouts and average against.

Unsurprisingly, he was good enough for a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket on Aug. 1.

The award is voted on by league managers and the media. The Sea Dogs have a lot to be proud of, as they also have the second-place finisher in Brian Johnson.
