A’s Auctioning Off Game-Used Memorabilia From Wild-Card Game They Lost

Oakland Athletics fans probably want to forget this year’s American League wild-card game against the Kansas City Royals, but Major League Baseball apparently doesn’t think so.

The league is auctioning off game-used memorabilia from the postseason matchup, including jerseys, hats and helmets. Starting pitcher Jon Lester and third baseman Josh Donaldson’s jerseys are already fetching $700, and the auction is open until Oct. 20.

You have to wonder if the bidders are actually Athletics fans or if they’re collectors, as this postseason was particularly painful for the team. The A’s took a 7-3 lead into the eighth inning of the Sept. 30 game, only to lose 9-8 in the 12th inning. It was Oakland’s seventh straight loss in a win-or-go-home game in the MLB postseason.
