John Elway Accidentally Thanks John Elway To Open Press Conference (Video)

John Elway is a big fan of John Elway.

The Denver Broncos held a press conference Tuesday to announce the mutual parting of ways with head coach John Fox, but the general manager had another John on his mind — himself. Elway opened the presser by thanking John Elway.

Sure, he caught his mistake almost immediately, but it was still fantastic and a prime example of why Vine exists.

Elway avoided talking in third person for the rest of the press conference, as he praised Fox for what he accomplished with Denver.

“It really was a good run,” Elway said. “When I first got the job four years ago, first thing I had to do was hire a coach. John was the perfect guy for the job at that time. The tenaciousness, his exuberance, his energy — at that time, it was perfect. It was perfect at the time. I would like to thank him and his staff for four great years. Didn’t get where we wanted it to get in four years.”

Elway added there were no hard feelings between the two and that they amicably parted.

“It was the right time, so we mutually agreed to part ways,” Elway said. “I like John Fox as a man very much. He is a very, very good man. He’s got a tremendous heart.”
