Boston University saw its nation-best seven-game winning streak come to a surprising end over the weekend.

New Hampshire handed the red-hot Terriers their first loss in nearly a month, topping them 4-3 at the Whittemore Center on Saturday night. The unexpected loss came one day after BU dominated the Wildcats (11-17-2, 6-11-1 Hockey East) by a 6-3 score, but it was enough to bump them from the top spot in Tom Caron’s poll.

The Terriers (19-5-4, 13-3-2) had found a nice home at the No. 1 spot in Caron’s ballot, holding steady for three consecutive weeks, but they now find themselves looking up at North Dakota. UND let a two-goal, third-period lead slip away Saturday night against Denver before eventually losing in the shootout, but it still managed to stay atop the league standings and snatch the coveted spot from BU.

The Terriers will have another shot to clinch the regular-season Hockey East championship Friday when they take on Notre Dame at home.
