Steven Gerrard was a fresh-faced kid when he played his first game for Liverpool in 1998, but now he deservedly enters select company as a grizzled veteran.
Gerrard made his 700th appearance for Liverpool’s first team Wednesday, playing 90 minutes in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers. Gerrard became the third entrant into Liverpool’s “700 Club”, joining Jamie Carragher and Ian Callaghan in the exclusive company.

Former Liverpool stars Dietmar Hamann and Patrik Berger hailed Gerrard, 34, for arriving at this latest landmark in his legendary Anfield career.

Gerrard now sits third on Liverpool’s all-time appearances’ list. He’ll leave Liverpool when his contract expires after this season, making it unlikely that he’ll overtake Carragher for second place.

Gerrard’s place on the list is set in stone, and it take years, possibly even decades, for another player to join Liverpool’s “700 Club.”
