Mookie Betts is making the Boston Red Sox’s center field competition nonexistent.
Betts, who continues to thrive at Red Sox spring training, opened Friday’s game against the New York Yankees with a great diving catch in left-center field. The 22-year-old has been leaving his mark both offensively and defensively since the club arrived at camp.
Betts’ grab in the first inning of Thursday’s contest at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers robbed Ramon Flores of a leadoff single. It also further showcased Betts’ athleticism as he embarks on Year 2 in the majors.
