Senators Goalie Andrew ‘Hamburglar’ Hammond Gets Free McDonald’s For Life

Andrew Hammond is most definitely lovin’ it.

The Senators goaltender has been the most pleasant of surprises this season, going 10-0-1 in 11 starts while earning the adoration of the Ottawa faithful in the process. But the 27-year-old, who went undrafted and had only one NHL game under his belt before making his first start Feb. 18, is winning off the ice, too.

Hammond, awesomely nicknamed “The Hamburglar,”  is about to go ham on some burgers, as he has been given a card that will provide him with free McDonald’s for life in the Ottawa area, according to the Ottawa Sun. John Bergeron, who owns six Mickey D’s in the Ottawa Valley, is the inspiration behind the free fast food. Bergeron told the Sun he was so impressed with Hammond’s rise that he felt he should reward him in some delicious fashion.

Fans clearly felt the same way following Sunday night’s 2-1 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers, as one Sens supporter tossed a hamburger on the ice. Hammond calmly scooped it up and tossed it back into the crowd, telling reporters after the game he didn’t want to eat it because it was too cold.

That won’t be a problem anymore.

“I’m thinking they have that new light menu, with all the salad and stuff,” Hammond, said per the Sun. “I guess at the end of the day at least I know I’ll never end up starving. If hockey doesn’t work out, I have a meal plan.”
