When Rusney Castillo suffered another shoulder injury making a diving grab Tuesday, many were concerned that he could wind up on the disabled list.
But the Boston Red Sox outfielder insists he’ll be A-OK.
Castillo spoke to reporters after Boston’s 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday and was sure that this injury wasn’t as bad as the shoulder inflammation that sidelined him indefinitely in April while he was with Triple-A Pawtucket. He even believed he’d be able to return as early as Thursday’s contest against the Texas Rangers.
“It’s not the same level of intensity or as serious of an injury,” Castillo told reporters, per WEEI.com. “Ideally, I could start playing (Thursday) or over the weekend. We’ll see how I feel. If not (Thursday), then the next few days I’m hoping.”
Castillo also acknowledged that he’s suffered more injuries recently than he had throughout his career in Cuba. However, he doesn’t see it as a long-term problem.
“It’s at times a little concerning,” Castillo said. “Playing back in Cuba, I had never had any sort of injuries like this. It’s concerning, but at the same time every single one of them I’ve been able to bounce back relatively quickly. It’s not something I’m concerned with moving forward.”
