Report: Liverpool, Manchester City Agree To Raheem Sterling Transfer

Liverpool has agreed to sell 20-year-old Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for £49 million (approximately $76 million), according to multiple reports.

Rumors of Sterling’s contract status have swirled for months, with most indicating the youngster wanted out of Liverpool. Those reports left a bitter taste in the mouths of fans, who booed him at the team’s awards ceremony in May.

Sterling is under contract until 2017, though the team had tried to re-negotiate his contract to appease the midfielder/striker, even offering a £100,000 ($155K) per week contract, according to BBC Sports.

Liverpool previously had turned down a £46.5 million offer from Manchester City, but apparently a few million extra made all the difference.

The transfer comes in Manchester City’s third bid for the player, and will make Sterling the most expensive Englishman ever. He scored 23 goals in 129 games in three seasons for Liverpool.
