By this point, a lot of us are sick and tired of hearing about Deflategate and just want the whole thing to go away.

Apparently the NFL is banking on Tom Brady feeling the same way.

The league is hoping it will “wear down” the New England Patriots quarterback in negotiations surrounding his appeal and get him to accept some sort of suspension for his alleged role in the ball deflation scandal, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole said in a video posted Friday, citing sources close to the NFL.

“The league is of the belief,” Cole said, “that they will be able to get a deal done with Brady and (be) able to wear him down and get him to accept a deal that will include him missing games as a result of the Deflategate investigation.”

With Patriots training camp set to begin Thursday, Cole said the NFL believes it can pressure the QB to get a deal done before he hits the field.

“Brady will want to focus on football almost exclusively and get the entire Deflategate matter put behind him and in the rear mirror as he goes toward the 2015 season,” Cole said.

Cole’s comments follow a report that Brady’s camp had been trying to negotiate a settlement with Roger Goodell and the NFL, but that the league met that proposal with “silence.”

At the other end of the spectrum, Brady and the NFL Players Association reportedly plan to take the case to federal court if Goodell’s ruling results in any sort of suspension. Cole added that Brady also wants the league to admit he had no involvement at all in Deflategate.
