Rick Porcello’s Bounce-Back Win Earns Him Amica Pitcher Of The Week

For the first time in nearly two months, Rick Porcello is back in the win column.

The Boston Red Sox right-hander allowed two runs in six innings against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, exiting with the lead and earning the victory in Boston’s eventual 6-3 win. By snapping a seven-game losing streak for his first win since May 16, Porcello has won the Amica Pitcher of the Week.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the 26-year-old, who allowed eight hits on the night, including a string of five consecutive base knocks. Unlike in previous starts, though, Porcello made a couple big pitches when it counted to escape additional trouble. He even helped himself out, snagging a comebacker with two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth inning to end a Marlins threat.

Porcello — whose ERA dropped from 6.08 to 5.90 after the win — still has a long way to go to salvage what has been a rough season so far. But he certainly took a step in the right direction Wednesday.
