White Sox Acquire Todd Frazier In Three-Team Trade With Reds, Dodgers

The MLB winter meetings have come and passed, but there’s still plenty of heat left in the hot stove.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox on Wednesday completed a trade that sends All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier from Cincinnati to the White Sox.

Here’s the full breakdown of the trade.

White Sox receive (from Reds)
3B Todd Frazier

Reds receive (from Dodgers)
IF Brandon Dixon
IF Jose Peraza
OF Scott Schebler

Dodgers get (from White Sox)
2B Micah Johnson
RHP Frankie Montas
OF Trayce Thompson

Frazier, who will be 30 when the 2016 season starts, is the obvious centerpiece of the deal. He was named an All-Star for the second consecutive season in 2015, finishing the year with a .255 batting average, hitting 35 home runs and driving in 89 runs.

The Reds continue their rebuild by adding three prospects from the Dodgers. The best might be Peraza, who made his major league debut in 2015 and was named a top-100 prospect by multiple outlets entering the season. Schebler also reached the big leagues in ’15, and showed some decent pop with three home runs in 36 at-bats.

All three players the Dodgers received from the White Sox made their major league debuts in 2015, and Thompson probably has the most upside of the bunch. The brother of Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson appeared in 44 games, hitting .295 with five home runs and 16 RBIs. At the very least, the trade helps the Dodgers stockpile assets that could help them make another deal for a proven big leaguer at some point.
