Report: Colin Kaepernick Wants Out Of San Francisco, Prefers Jets

Could Colin Kaepernick be coming to the AFC East?

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback had a rough 2015 campaign, struggling greatly under head coach Jim Tomsula before being benched in Week 8 for Blaine Gabbert and hitting IR with a shoulder injury that required surgery. But with Tomsula out and Chip Kelly in, Kaepernick’s future with the Niners remains cloudy.

And he’d reportedly rather be in New York.

Kaepernick would prefer to join the Jets, the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta reported Tuesday. Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan and head coach Todd Bowles previously said they wanted to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, who will be an unrestricted free agent, but according to Mehta, the Jets know about Kaepernick’s wishes and are intrigued.

Of course, nothing is guaranteed in this situation. Kaepernick still has five years left on the six-year, $114 million contract extension he signed in 2014, and the Niners haven’t given a strong answer on whether they’re even considering trading him.

The Jets also could be accused of tampering (again) if they make any indication of wanting to land Kaepernick, so don’t expect to hear anything from them. For now, this one is going to have to live in the rumor mill.
