Xander Bogaerts Hits Baseball To Moon In Red Sox’s 5-1 Win Vs. Phillies (Video)

Xander Bogaerts’ second home run of spring training might still be in orbit somewhere.

The Boston Red Sox shortstop was all over the first pitch he saw from Philadelphia Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff in the fifth inning of Sunday’s spring training game, and he launched a solo shot right out of JetBlue Park.

Bogaerts’ homer was the final run of the Red Sox’s 5-1 win over Philly. Center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. also contributed a two-run home run — his second in as many days — in the fourth inning.

It was a good day for a handful of Boston’s hitters, as Bogaerts, Mookie Betts and Brock Holt each went 2-for-3 while Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-3 in the Red Sox’s 12-hit affair.

On the other side of the ball, starter Steven Wright struggled at times, but it ultimately didn’t affect the scoreboard. The knuckleballer gave up seven hits over 5 2/3 innings with two walks, three strikeouts and the one earned run. Luis Ysla, Rob Wort and Robby Scott held it down for Wright to finish out the game.
