Blackhawks Beat Blues After Controversial Coach’s Challenge Wipes Out Goal In Game 2
The St. Louis Blues looked poised to take a 2-0 first-round playoff series lead over the rival Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night when Vladimir Tarasenko scored a go-ahead goal with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation.
But that’s where the controversy began.
Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville used his coach’s challenge to review the play. He argued Blues forward Jori Lehtera was offside before the goal.
The goal was overturned, keeping the score tied 1-1. Chicago eventually won 3-2 after scoring twice in the final five minutes of the third period to even the series at a game apiece.
The situation was further proof why the coach’s challenge system must be tweaked in the offseason or removed completely.
