Doug Flutie Honors Late Parents On ‘Dancing With The Stars’ With Tear-Jerking Waltz

Doug Flutie still has that flair for the dramatic.

The Boston College football legend and former New England Patriot on Monday delivered an emotional performance on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars.” Flutie dedicated his waltz with partner Karina Smirnoff to his late parents, who died last November on the same day, less than one hour apart.

The waltz drew tears from judges and many in the audience.

“This is how your parents live on,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. “I give bonus points when you rip our hearts out. You created magic. It was simple but you shone brightly. Well done, Karina.”

Judges gave Flutie’s and Smirnoff’s dance a total score of 20.

Season 22 of “Dancing With The Stars” is just three weeks old, and Flutie isn’t expected to prevail in the competition. But few will forget the time the ex-football player moved America to tears in an effort to make his parents proud of him.
