The city of Leicester, England, likely will still smell like Champagne when the next Premier League season kicks off.
The 2016-17 will begin on Aug. 13, the Premier League announced last week. The marathon campaign will run until May 21, 2017, when all 20 teams will play their final games on one date.
The Premier League will announce its full schedule on June 15, giving fans a chance to imagine how their team’s season will unfold. The 20 teams will play a total of 380 games over nine months.
Leicester City F.C. is the newly crowned champion of England’s top flight, and fans around the world will watch to see whether the Foxes can carry the momentum from their dream season into 2016-17.
Premier League clubs also will compete in the Capital One Cup (or Football League Cup) in the early season. Most will enter the Capital One Cup in Round 2, which begins on Aug. 21, but the clubs involved in the UEFA Champions League or Europa League will commence in Round 3 starting on Sept. 21.
