MLB Trade Rumors: Dodgers Open To Dealing Yasiel Puig Before Deadline

It’s been quite a fall from grace for one of Major League Baseball’s most polarizing players.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are open to trading outfielder Yasiel Puig before the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline, major league sources told FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Puig has had a disappointing 2016 to this point despite providing solid defense and performing better offensively of late. He’s still just 25, has the tools to be an impact player and seemingly hasn’t caused as much clubhouse drama this season, but the Dodgers could look to move him as they attempt to get more production from their outfield.

Puig, who also had a lackluster 2015, entered Tuesday hitting .257 with seven home runs, 31 RBIs and a .700 OPS in 75 games. It’s a far cry from 2013, when Puig burst onto the scene and hit .319 with 19 homers, 42 RBIs and a .925 OPS in 104 regular-season games. The Cuban outfielder also was an All-Star in 2014, when he hit .296 with 16 homers, 69 RBIs and an .863 OPS in 148 regular-season contests.

Puig is under team control through 2019.
