Jon Lester, Javier Baez Named NLCS Co-MVPs After Cubs Clinch World Series Berth

When you win your first National League pennant since 1945, one MVP simply just isn’t enough.

The Chicago Cubs made history Saturday night, as they clinched their first World Series berth in 71 years with their 5-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series at Wrigley Field. And while Kyle Hendricks certainly was the MVP of Game 6, he wasn’t of the entire series.

Cubs second baseman Javier Baez and left-handed starting pitcher Jon Lester were named NLCS co-MVPs for their extraordinary efforts throughout the series.

Baez hit .318 with five RBIs in the series, while Lester went 1-0 in two starts with a 1.38 ERA.

“Before the game, it’s crazy. Inside the game, it’s crazy,” Lester said, via ESPN.com. “These guys have done nothing but support us from day one. And it’s been unbelievable to play here and be a part of this. Words can’t really describe where I’m at right now.”

Well, actually they can — MVP.
