NHL Rumors: Hampus Lindholm, Ducks Agree To Six-Year, $31.5M Contract

The Anaheim Ducks finally will have No. 1 defenseman Hampus Lindholm back in their lineup.

Lindholm, 22, has not played yet this season because he had been unsigned as a restricted free agent coming off his entry-level contract. But TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported Thursday morning the sides have agreed on a six-year deal worth $31.5 million.

Lindholm is one of the best young defensemen in the NHL, and he now is signed long term to a very team-friendly contract. As the graphic below shows, he rates as a first-pairing blueliner in several areas.

The Ducks need Lindholm back in the worst way. His scoring production, playmaking and puck-moving ability will help an offense ranked 23rd in goals per game, and he’ll also help Anaheim’s puck possession.

Lindholm tallied 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) and drove puck possession with a 57.8 Corsi-For percentage during 5-on-5 play last season, third-best among defensemen.
