Cubs’ Ben Zobrist Wins 2016 World Series MVP After Game 7 Heroics

Ben Zobrist won’t ever have to buy a meal in Chicago again.

The veteran utility man was named World Series MVP on Wednesday night after driving in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning of Game 7 of the World Series at Progressive Field.

Zobrist’s 10th-inning double of Cleveland Indians reliever Bryan Shaw gave Chicago a one-run lead. The Cubs would add another run later in the inning before ultimately winning 8-7.

The World Series MVP award was created in 1955, and since the Cubs’ last Fall Classic win was in 1908, Zobrist is the first player in franchise history to receive this honor.

He’s also the fourth player ever to win back-to-back World Series titles in different leagues (he was part of the 2015 Kansas City Royals title-winning team).

Zobrist finished the seven-game series with 10 hits in 28 at-bats (.357 batting average) to go along with two RBIs and two walks.
