Roger Goodell Says Donald Trump’s Sexist Comments Are Hard To Explain To Daughters

Surprise! Roger Goodell put his foot in his mouth again.

The NFL commissioner was asked Thursday at The New York Times’ DealBook conference how Donald Trump being elected president could affect the NFL. The subject turned to how Trump’s inappropriate comments about women — he bragged about being able to grab women sexually without permission and has over a dozen women accusing him of sexual assault, among other things — could impact the league’s fight against domestic violence.

And his answer was something else.

“It makes my job harder at home, too,” Goodell said, per SBNation. “I have twin daughters and a wife, so I have to explain that to them. So yes, on that front. Does it make it harder publicly? Listen, I think our country has to have more respect for one another, and we have to unite.”

Of course, Goodell has some of his own transgressions to explain to his wife and daughters. The NFL commissioner has been notoriously bad at handling domestic violence cases — most recently former New York Giants kicker Josh Brown’s — and has given out light punishments even after establishing a minimum six-game suspension for abuse cases.

But Goodell thinks we just don’t get it.

“I don’t think people understand the complexity of these issues like domestic violence,” Goodell said. “People hold the NFL to a very high standard.”

But, hey, as long as players aren’t excessively celebrating touchdowns, then everything is A-OK.
