Clemson’s Absurd New Football Facility Will Have A Slide, Because Why Not?

In the alternate universe of college football facilities, no measures are too extreme or bizarre.

So, when Clemson saw an opportunity to put a piece of playground equipment in its extravagant new facility, the obvious answer was “yes.”

The Tigers are working on a new “football operations center” that’s set to open Feb. 1 and reportedly cost $55 million. The lavish complex includes your standard fare for Division 1 schools — a massive weight room; unnecessary amenities like an indoor golf simulator and a laser tag course — but it also will come with a slide.

Yes, a slide.

We suppose that’s more fun than taking the stairs.

There also will be a sand volleyball court and a fire pit in the adjacent “outdoor village,” meaning Clemson players can go into full little kid mode by playing in the sand after they go down the slide.

Here’s a video rendering of the facility, slide included:

Head coach Dabo Swinney probably hopes the slide isn’t a metaphor for his program, which earned the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff and will face No. 3 Ohio State in the national semifinal.
