NFL Rumors: Richard Sherman Visiting 49ers, ‘Real Chance’ Deal Happens

Richard Sherman reportedly is moving closer to finding a new home.

The Seattle Seahawks released the veteran cornerback Friday, meaning Sherman can begin meeting with other teams immediately and sign a new contract as early as March 14. And while multiple reports have linked Sherman to the New England Patriots, there’s a “real chance” the 29-year-old stays in the NFC West, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday, citing sources.

Sherman reportedly will visit the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, in what will be the first — and potential last stop — on his search for a new home.

First Jimmy Garoppolo, now Sherman — the Niners are starting to be a real thorn in Patriots fans’ sides.

Many have assumed the Pats’ interest in Sherman is a no-brainer. But if a report from ESPN’s Josina Anderson is to be believed, New England might not even kick the tires on the four-time All-Pro.

At the end of the day, while Sherman certainly would be great addition to the Pats, the team might elect to enter the 2018 Season with a cornerback depth chart headlined by Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe and Jonathan Jones. (And don’t forget the oft-maligned Cyrus Jones, who should enter training camp as motivated as anyone after missing all of last season with a torn ACL.)

Still, the Patriots would be well-served to explore the possibility of bringing Sherman into the fold.
