Red Sox’s Brock Holt Weighs In On His Uncertain Roster Situation

The Boston Red Sox have a problem, but it’s a pretty good problem to have.

With a wealth of Major League-caliber talent at their disposal, the Red Sox ultimately will end up having to exclude someone from their Opening Day roster simply due to numbers. And presumably it is between Brock Holt, Blake Swihart and Deven Marrero to take the final pair of spots

There is a legitimate case for each player to make the cut, but the reality is there has to be an odd man out. And on Wednesday, Holt weighed in on his deservingness to be with the varsity come next Thursday.

Holt continued, and he sounded pretty optimistic about his potential options should he end up being the third guy.

The 29-year-old still has minor league options available, so the Red Sox possibly could option him to Triple-A. That would, however, require him to pass through waivers, in which case a different team could claim him.

Holt has proven over the course of his five seasons in Boston that he is versatile, but lately, injuries have impeded him from being able to contribute.

But much like the two others he is competing against for the final bench spots, Holt has had a pretty solid spring. He’s hitting .308 over 26 at-bats.
