MLB Mock Draft Predicts Prospect Red Sox Might Pick In 2021 First Round

Will the Boston Red Sox add one of college baseball’s big bashers to their cupboard next year?

MLB.com’s Jim Callis predicted Tuesday in his 2021 MLB Mock Draft the Red Sox would select University of Florida center fielder Jud Fabian with the No. 4 overall pick. Fabian impressed scouts in 2019 and 2020 with his power at the plate, but his contact hitting probably needs improvement.

“Fabian might be the most polarizing prospect among the eight players who seem to have separated themselves from the rest of the Draft class at this point,” Callis wrote. “He could have the most usable power in the Draft and may stay in center field, but he also has hit just .250 with a 22-percent strikeout rate in two seasons at Florida.”

Having finished the 2020 MLB season with the fourth-worst record, the Red Sox now own the prized No. 4 pick in the next draft.

Who they might select is a mystery at this point. After all, the 2021 MLB Draft is seven months away.

However, Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom is determined to restock Boston’s farm system and he knows how valuable draft picks can be in doing so. That is, if teams knock their picks out of the park like Fabian can do, as opposed to swinging and missing on prospects.
