NFL Owners Hold Off On Approving 17-Game Regular Season For 2021
The move comes after a 'lengthy discussion'
NFL fans looking forward to a 17-game regular season might be a bit disappointed in the latest news emerging from the league.
League owners have postponed any move to implement the extended season in 2021 on Wednesday during a conference call. Now, a decision will not be made until early next year.
“We had a lengthy discussion on this,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said, via The Associated Press, “obviously it’s an important decision for us. We did not take any votes with respect to committing to do it. In the collective bargaining agreement, we have that right to do it.”
The NFL and NFL Players’ Association agreed to the extended season during their collective bargaining agreement a few months ago. A scheduling formula for a 17th game was approved unanimously, as well.
We’ll see how this plays out come the new year.
