One of the Buffalo Bills’ star defenders tipped his cap to Mac Jones after the Patriots quarterback led a stunning late-game comeback Sunday.

Jones drove the Patriots 75 yards in eight plays and threw a game-winning touchdown pass to Mike Gesicki with 12 seconds remaining to give New England a 29-25 victory over the heavily favored Bills at Gillette Stadium.

The much-maligned QB completed 25 of 30 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers in arguably the best all-around performance of his NFL career.

“He’s getting better, for sure,” Bills edge rusher Von Miller told FOX Sports’ Henry McKenna after the game. “I was impressed with Mac.”

The fourth-quarter comeback was Jones’ first since his rookie season in 2021. He came up empty in three similar opportunities earlier this season, failing to score on late-game possessions against the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders.

These kinds of gritty victories against quality opponents have mostly eluded the Patriots since Tom Brady’s 2020 departure, but Miller still sees shades of the dynasty era in Bill Belichick’s squad.

“It still looks like the Patriots of the golden days,” the eight-time Pro Bowler told McKenna. “Obviously, Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski — all those players aren’t there. But they’re still coached well. It’s just turnovers at the beginning of the games that have put them behind the ball, and they didn’t turn over the ball today.”

The Patriots did have one turnover Sunday — a fourth-quarter Kendrick Bourne fumble that nearly lost them the game — but got off to a much better start than they had in previous weeks. They scored on their first two possessions and three of their first four (field goal, touchdown, punt, field goal) and led 13-3 at halftime.

New England entered the game ranked second-to-last in the NFL in first-quarter scoring and 30th in first-half scoring.

The win only improved the Patriots to 2-5 on the season, but they have a chance to reestablish themselves as legitimate players in the AFC East when they visit the Miami Dolphins this Sunday.
