There was another shake-up at ESPN, and Boston Celtics and NBA fans weren't pleased with the expected fallout.
According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, ESPN laid off Zack Lowe as part of its continuing layoffs which also included Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder. Lowe's reported departure came a week after Adrian Wojnarowski announced he'd leave ESPN and become general manager of the St. Bonaventure. men's basketball program. The report also came the same year JJ Redick left his ESPN broadcast gig to become head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Lowe is a respected NBA writer and podcaster, which made his reported layoff very surprising to fans and media. It also had basketball fans realizing there would be a lot more personalities like Kendrick Perkins on the airwaves.
Celtics fans were quick to point out how Lowe's coverage of the Celtics was much more positive than Perkins', which might explain why a contingent of Green Teamers isn't the biggest fan of the 2008 NBA champion.
It's unclear what ESPN's NBA coverage will look like for the 2024-25 season, but the drastic changes from the "worldwide leader" will be another adjustment for fans.
