The Red Sox made a bullpen tweak before wrapping up their latest homestand.

Boston recalled Luis Guerrero from Triple-A Worcester a few hours ahead of its series finale against the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park. To make room for Guerrero on the active roster, Boston optioned Josh Winckowski to Worcester, per a club announcement.

Guerrero has been with the Red Sox organization since 2021 when he was selected in the 17th round of that year’s draft. The 24-year-old climbed through the minor leagues over the past few years and made his MLB debut in early September of last season. Guerrero logged nine appearances (10 total innings) in 2024 and didn’t allow a single earned run while only allowing a combined six hits to go along with nine strikeouts.

Winckowski, like Guerrero, did not make the Red Sox’s 2025 Opening Day roster but was called up April 8. The 26-year-old made six appearances (11 2/3 total innings) before the demotion and posted a 3.86 ERA over that span. Three of those frames were recorded Wednesday night when Winckowski gave up two earned runs on four hits with two walks in Boston’s 8-5 loss to Seattle.

Guerrero might not be needed in his first game back on the Red Sox roster, though. Ace Garrett Crochet, Boston’s starter for the series finale against the Mariners, always has a good chance to go deep into ballgames.
