Rumors of Jeff Garcia Returning to Philadelphia Unsubstantiated for Time Being

Kevin Kolb wasn't very good on Sunday against the Redskins.

After Michael Vick left the game due to a crushing goal-line hit, Kolb did his best Trent Edwards imitation, constantly looking helpless in the pocket behind a porous offensive line and rarely looking downfield.

While Kolb still may be the quarterback of the future in Philadelphia, whether he is currently the best fit is questionable. The team needs a mobile quarterback to compensate for its mediocre offensive line, and that's not a skill that he has.

Since Vick may have to miss time, many have pointed to former Eagle Jeff Garcia as a potential fill-in for the team. Garcia is currently with the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks, where he has led the team to a 2-0 start and played well.

Garcia was rumored to be interested in the move, but has now downplayed the situation, reports FanHouse.

"I really don't want to comment on anything right now because it's just talk," Garcia told FanHouse, via text massage. "We'll see what transpires over the next couple of days."

That doesn't exactly seem like he's ruling out a Philadelphia homecoming, and it is possible for him to leave the Nighthawks if UFL commissioner Michael Hugyhue approves the move and the Eagles pay the $150,000 buyout fee to Omaha.

Other NFL teams with abysmal quarterback situations such as Buffalo and Arizona could also likely benefit from Garcia's presence.

ESPN's Adam Schefter, though, has said that nothing is imminent.

"I like Garcia, always have. But teams … not so much. He was unemployed last season and could not find work this offseason. I'd give him a chance. Teams, though, have balked," explained Schefter.

The debate for the UFL, though, is whether it wants to sacrifice one of its most popular players, and whether the move would legitimize the quality of the UFL's competition or relegate the league to NFL-feeder status.
