Hideki Okajima, Alfredo Aceves Optioned to Pawtucket While Matt Albers, Dennys Reyes Make Red Sox' 25-Man Roster Just about every question about the 2011 Red Sox is answered, thanks to general manager Theo Epstein's announcement on Monday morning.

Epstein told reporters in Florida that lefty Hideki Okajima and righty Alfredo Aceves will be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket to begin the year, meaning lefty Dennys Reyes and righty Matt Albers will be on the Red Sox' 25-man roster on Opening Day.

The Boston Herald's Michael Silverman and WEEI's Rob Bradford both tweeted the news on Monday morning.

Albers pitched on Sunday and struggled a bit, allowing three hits, two walks and an earned run in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Reyes was a bit better, pitching around one hit and one walk in his inning of work.

In total, Albers pitched 12 2/3 innings thus far this spring, posting a 1.263 WHIP and 2.84 ERA. He struck out an impressive 13 batters, as well. Reyes has thrown 10 innings, posting a 1.400 WHIP and 2.70 ERA.

Okajima, the only pitcher of the group to have experience with the Red Sox, posted a 5.14 ERA in his seven innings of work, while Aceves was 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA in 13 1/3 innings.

However, spring stats likely weren't a large factor in Epstein's decisions, as neither Albers or Reyes have options remaining. Sending either player down to the minors would have exposed them to waivers. Okajima and Aceves, of course, do have options, making the decisions that much easier for Epstein.
