Bobby Valentine to Be Introduced as New Red Sox Manager on ThursdayThe Boston Red Sox will officially introduce Bobby Valentine as the team’s new manager on Thursday.

The news conference will take place at the State Street Pavilion Club at Fenway Park at 5:30 p.m. It will be broadcast live on NESN. NESN.com will also provide news and analysis throughout the day.

Valentine takes over after a lengthy search to replace Terry Francona, who managed the club from 2004 through the end of last season, and brings plenty of experience to the position.

Valentine last managed in the majors with the New York Mets in 2002. He held that position with the Mets for six-plus seasons and compiled a 536-467 record.

The 61-year-old skipper also managed the Texas Rangers and the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan’s Pacific League before landing in New York. He returned to the Pacific League in 2004, once again managing the Marines until 2009. He led the Marines to a Japan Series title in 2005.

Since returning to the United States, Valentine has worked as an analyst for ESPN.

Overall, Valentine has put together a 1117-1072 record (.510 winning percentage) in his 15 years as an MLB manager.
