ESPN Editor Fired for Jeremy Lin Headline Apologizes, 'Devastated' About 'Honest Mistake'Anthony Federico is sorry — really sorry.

Federico is the ESPN editor responsible for a controversial headline that was published early Saturday morning, a headline that cost Federico his job.

The headline referenced the New Orleans Hornets' win over the Jeremy Lin and the Knicks, with the words "Chink in the armor" on early Saturday morning. The New York Daily News points out that the headline — which also featured a photo of Lin — stood on ESPN's mobile site for only a half hour or so on Saturday morning.

The headline caused an uproar given Lin's Asian-American heritage and it led to the firing of Federico. He's claiming it was an "honest mistake."

"This had nothing to do with being cute or punny," he told the New York Daily News. "I'm so sorry that I offended people. I'm so sorry if I offended Jeremy."

The 28-year Federico also told the paper that he views Lin as a hero, especially given the fact that he is also an "outspoken Christian."

"My faith is my life," Federico, a Knicks fan, explained to the Daily News. "I'd love to tell Jeremy what happened and explain that this was an honest mistake."

He also explained that he's used that headline plenty of times before, but added, "I am devasted that I caused a firestorm."
