BOSTON – Jacoby Ellsbury wasn't in the lineup in
Friday's game against the Orioles. In fact, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine
regrets playing him in Thursday's game as well.
But that's as far as Valentine would elaborate on
Ellsbury's condition. Since Ellsbury prefers to keep his injury news under
wraps, the Red Sox skipper was cryptic about his outfielder's status.
"He has a little situation that we're making sure it's nothing more than a little situation," Valentine said. "He
really shouldn't have played yesterday. He's just got a little — I'm not even
sure how to define it, so I'm not going to try to."
Valentine said it's not related to Ellsbury's leg
situation
from last month.
Earlier this year, Ellsbury missed 79 games after
suffering a subluxed shoulder on April 13. As of late, however, the 29-year-old
has been on fire, hitting .435 in six games heading into Thursday's game, where he finished 0-for-3.
