Matt Kemp Says Ryan Braun Should Be Stripped of 2011 MVP Award, But Doesn’t Think It Should Be Given to Him

Matt KempIn 2011, recently suspended Ryan Braun won the National League Most Valuable Player award. Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp finished second in the voting, and after the news that broke Monday, he now believes the Brewers outfielder should be stripped of that honor.

“Do I feel like it should be stripped? I mean, yeah, I do,” Kemp told MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick. “I feel like it should be, but that’s not for me to decide, you know? That’s not for me to decide.”

Kemp would like to see the honor taken away from Braun, but that doesn’t mean he thinks the award should be given to him.

“I was in the race for MVP and got second,” he said. “The voters had their opinion of who they wanted to pick as MVP. You have to respect who they picked. It is what it is. For me, all I can worry about is getting healthy. It definitely would be nice to have an MVP trophy, but I didn’t win the MVP. I was second.”

Kemp is currently sidelined with a sprained ankle that he suffered in his first game back from the disabled list.
