Oh, bullpen cop. Your arms say what all of Red Sox Nation is feeling.
The Boston Police officer standing guard in the Red Sox’ bullpen Sunday night found himself part of the action during an incredible moment in Red Sox history. Boston was trying to do something, anything to get back from a 5-1 hole, and David Ortiz came up to bat with the bases loaded.
Fulfilling a narrative that could only be dreamed, Ortiz ripped a home run out to the bullpen to tie the game — but not without also sending Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter flying, head over heels, across the fence as he tried to snag the ball and keep Detroit’s lead.
Hunter disappeared over the rail, symbolizing the night’s fortunes turning, as the bullpen cop celebrated, the image an enduring one of how quickly Boston’s fate changed Sunday night.
