Boston Red Sox southpaw Jon Lester was tasked with keeping pace with New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka on June 28, and he did it as if it were not a problem.
For that accomplishment, Lester earns Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.
Lester earned the W for an eight-inning effort against New York in which he allowed five hits while striking out six and walking two. The Yankees got on the board in Boston’s 2-1 win, but the run was unearned for Lester. Tanaka pitched a complete game, but he gave up two solo home runs to David Ross and Mike Napoli.
The outing was Lester’s fourth straight quality start.
