The 2014-15 NHL season has come to an end. The “NHL 15” video game season, that is.

The folks at EA Sports released the results of their annual NHL season simulation Wednesday, and the Los Angeles Kings were predicted to repeat as Stanley Cup champions. That outcome was bittersweet for the Boston Bruins.

eabracketOn one hand, at least the B’s have what it takes in a semi-realistic video game to advance that far in the playoffs. However, a Stanley Cup Final loss likely won’t satisfy Boston fans who enter new seasons with championship-or-bust mentalities.

While the video game itself might boast realistic gameplay, the same can’t be said for its playoff simulation. EA Sports made a mistake by having the Bruins face off against the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference semifinals. That’s not possible under the new NHL playoff format.

Try not to worry about the virtual Stanley Cup Final loss, B’s fans. These simulations aren’t usually accurate. After all, the Bruins were predicted to win it all against the San Jose Sharks in last year’s version.
