Rajon Rondo Highest Celtics Player In ESPN/TrueHoop Rankings At No. 37

Rajon RondoESPN.com and TrueHoop Network’s annual NBA player rankings did not show the Boston Celtics much love.

This year’s list, the latest installment of which was released Friday, places just one Celtics player within the league’s top 100: Rajon Rondo, who checks in at No. 37.

Injuries have caused Rondo to plummet through the rankings over the past few seasons. He nearly cracked the top 10 in 2012 (No. 12) before falling to No. 27 last season and tumbling down another 10 spots this year.

But even with the drop, the point guard remains head and shoulders over his Celtics teammates. The next-highest-ranked Boston player is Avery Bradley at No. 109, followed by Jeff Green (No. 119), Jared Sullinger (No. 140) and top draft pick Marcus Smart (No. 157).

Bringing up the rear is rookie Dwight Powell, who comes in ranked No. 487 out of 500.

In some interesting non-Celtics news, ESPN.com ranked Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant as the 40th-best NBA player after pegging him at No. 25 in 2013. Bryant did not agree with that assessment, calling it “silly” and “laughable.”

“I’ve known for a long time (that) they’re a bunch of idiots,” he said Thursday, via ESPN.com.
