Only one man has gone the distance with Conor McGregor in a UFC bout. And that man would love a rematch.
Max Holloway, who lost to McGregor by unanimous decision two years ago at UFC Fight Night 26, told reporters Sunday night he’d jump at the opportunity to fight the brash Irishman again.
“I’d fight him any day of the week,” Holloway said, via MMAJunkie.com, after defeating Charles Oliveira via first-round TKO at UFC Fight Night Saskatoon. “Now that I don’t have a fight I can talk how I feel. I’ll fight him any day of the week. UFC could have called me up for the last one (at UFC 189), and I would have taken it. But they didn’t, they chose Chad (Mendes) instead, and I’d love to fight him.
“You want to talk money? Holloway vs. McGregor, you got money with the No. 2 of that fight.”
The fight Holloway was referring to was McGregor’s second-round knockout of Mendes last month at UFC 189. McGregor initially was supposed to fight seven-time defending featherweight champion Jose Aldo in one of the most highly anticipated UFC events ever, but Aldo pulled out after suffering a broken rib in training.
The win improved McGregor to 18-2 professionally and 6-0 in the UFC. Another showdown between him and Aldo is set for Dec. 12 in Las Vegas.
McGregor is not the man Holloway is most eager to fight, however. That would be former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who currently sits at No. 2 in the circuit’s featherweight rankings.
“UFC works in mysterious ways; I’m sure they’re going to find something for me,” Holloway, the fifth-ranked featherweight, told MMAJunkie.com. “Let’s get UFC to (my home state of) Hawaii, and what better fight than Holloway vs. Edgar in a stadium? It would be huge.”
