When Daniel Sturridge finally will play for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp is anyone’s guess.
A foot injury Sturridge suffered in practice this week has ruled him out of Liverpool’s UEFA Europa League game against Bordeaux on Thursday at Anfield. He’ll undergo an MRI in the coming days. Liverpool then will set a timetable for his return.
Klopp confirmed Sturridge’s injury before the game in an interview with BT Sport.
Sturridge has scored 42 goals in 70 games for Liverpool since he joined the club in January 2013. The best period of his Anfield career came before 2014-15, as a series of injuries limited him to just 12 starts in all competitions last season and 241 minutes of action this season.
Sturridge, 26, was an unused substitute in Saturday’s win over Manchester City. Klopp subsequently said Sturridge was close to returning to the fray, but this latest setback only will add further frustration and mystery over his situation.
