The Columbus Blue Jackets won’t have to worry about an offer sheet with young defenseman Seth Jones.

Jones, 21, and the Blue Jackets have agreed to a six-year contract worth a total of $32.4 million, per TSN’s Darren Dreger. The team confirmed the signing shortly after.

Jones would’ve been a restricted free agent and able to sign an offer sheet from a rival club if unsigned when free agency begins July 1. He tallied 31 points (three goals, 28 assists) in 81 games between the Nashville Predators and the Blue Jackets last season.

The former fourth overall draft pick projects to be Columbus’ top defenseman for the present and future.
