The Boston Bruins were solid all-around in Saturday’s 1-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings, but Claude Julien was particularly impressed with his team’s defensive showing.

The Bruins coach was pleased with the way Boston slowed the Red Wings down, even if he would have liked to see a little more offense.

“I think our skating game was right on target there tonight,” Julien said on “Bruins Overtime Live” on NESN. “I thought we skated well, and we had to take away their speed, and I thought we were on top of them quickly. We closed quickly, and that obviously converts into good team defense there. I thought we did a good job in our own end.

“I saw some guys sacrificing themselves, blocking shots, which is always good to see. A lot of good things tonight and probably the only thing is continue to work on getting our confidence back at scoring some goals.”
