Clay Buchholz has emerged from a Pawtucket ace to Boston’s reliable third starter in a matter of months this summer as the young righty has caught fire.
Buchholz has won his last four decisions including three straight starts. In those four wins, he has held opponents to just five earned runs over a combined 27 1/3 innings. In his last start, Buchholz shut out the Orioles over seven innings where he allowed just three hits while striking out five batters.
The 25-year-old owns a 5-3 record on the season to go with a 3.92 ERA in 11 starts. After starting out 1-3 and getting his ERA to as high as 6.05 after just five starts, Buchholz has taken over as a reliable righty to compliment aces Josh Beckett and Jon Lester.
