No one knew how Jon Lester would pitch coming off a start in which he took a line drive to the leg. After leaving early in a losing effort to the Yankees on Sept. 25, Lester bounced back to have his third scoreless outing in his last six starts.
Lester earned his 15th win of the season with 6 1/3 scoreless innings against the Indians on Thursday at Fenway Park. He allowed just two hits on 84 pitches, striking out seven and walking one.
After pitching to an 8-6 record in the first half of the season with a 3.87 ERA, Lester went 7-2 with a 2.82 ERA in the second half and held opponents to a .224 batting average.
In what was Lester’s final start of the regular season, the left-hander certainly cleared any doubts about his health following the scary incident at Yankee Stadium, and further proved he is worthy of taking the ball in a Game 1 situation for the Red Sox in the postseason.
